Middle East Economic Association
24-26 June 2010, Istanbul Technical University, Maçka Campus / Istanbul

Dear Guests,

Amid their continuing hope for peace in the region and in the world as a whole, Middle Eastern Countries find themselves forced to confront the pressures and constraints imposed by the ongoing global economic crises. These pressures certainly have the potential for derailing countries of the region from being able to achieve their social and economic objectives and our aim is to generate research and policy which would enable them to order the political priorities   to improve the lives of ordinary people in the region. Economic and Social Research Centre (ESCR) hereby announces the organization of the 9th International Conference of MEEA to be held 24-26 June 2010 at the Faculty of Management of ITU in Istanbul, Turkey.

The MEEA is an economic association that brings together researchers studying the economies of the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. It is a private, non-profit, non-political organization of scholars interested in the study of the economies and economics of the Middle East region (defined quite broadly).  MEEA's objectives are the promotion of high quality scholarship, the facilitation of communication among scholars through meetings and publications, and the promotion of cooperation among persons and organizations committed to the objectives of MEEA. Among its many other members from Europe, the United States and the Middle East, the association also has many members from Turkey.

We expect the 9th International Conference of MEEA to become a forum not only for facilitating academic and policy discussion, but also for encouraging students and other young scholars to work on and find new ways of analyzing economic problems in the region. We look forward to seeing you in Istanbul in June 2010 at the crossroad of two continents and two different cultures.
